No more Rounded Edges

I’m totally confused but suddenly the Rounded Edges are greyed out. First I thought it was maybe my scene but a new scene with a default cube gives me the same? Who has the winning answer?

[edit]
Well forget the question, or keep it here for others with the same issue. It’s solved after restarting the PC, makes sense… uh not!

My rounded edges options come and go as they please, its not consistent, but more often than not, it is greyed out. Almost seems that if I have KS open for more than 10 min , after that it is greyed out. Now since updating to 2023, it is 100% greyed out, cannot get it to work no matter what.

Well it’s a bug for sure, I’ll make a note of it. I’m normally not often working with models containing nurbs but it has to do with those. If I restart KS2023 it’s all fine but if I dare to move a normal part into a tree folder with also nurbs models in it the rounded edges things get greyed out.

Well, that’s at least my quick conclusion so far, have to test a bit more but also trying to finish some animations. I rarely use models with nurbs but the K lamp challenge model is a nurbs one so I’m quite sure it has something to do with those or the combination with other geometry.

I, too, have been plagued by Rounded Edges being grayed out on a whim. I use nurbs almost exclusively. I am not on 2023 yet so have not had the pleasure of the feature graying out with more frequency.

I am on macOS and restarting just. the application (not the computer) solves this (for KS 11.3).

@oscar.rottink - I’ve yet to try this in KS 23, but I’ve encountered this at random in KS 11 Pro and the workaround I found was to to tick on and off “Render NURBS” on the toolbar. This has worked for me every time as far as I can remember to get the rounded edges options out of doom grey.

@dan.spore I also noticed that just closing and starting KS again did the trick as well, was a bit thorough

@imauserwiththisname I’ve yet to try it but saw in my mail Pierre also had typed something like that. Since I rarely work with nurbs I never noticed that option I was a bit wondering if it would have certain benefits to render them as nurbs. And I can imagine from the way Nurbs are constructed the rounded edges are not available on those but it shouldn’t disable it for all things.

Thanks @oscar.rottink @imauserwiththisname @dan.spore @matt.gerard - I have shared this thread with our QA team so we can see if we can reproduce it and then file it as a bug. Feel free to add any additional feedback here, this is all helpful!

Regular rounded edges works if the scene contains NURBS data or not.
In NURBS mode, rounded edges will be deactivated in realtime render port, but the input value and slider are still active.
If the part is locked, the rounded edges value (and slider) are “greyed out”. So please try to lock and unlock these parts

Hope that helps

Same issue here too. All suggestions going back to the old KS forums don’t work, e.g. trying any geometry tool (tessellation, split surfaces, align normals, flip normals, I’ll even export a part as an OBJ and import back in. I’ll even start a new file, do Edit>Add Geometry>Cube and it’s STILL greyed out. I’ll reboot, still same issue. Then suddenly it’s back and working. No rhyme or reason.

Which version do you use? I personally don’t work a lot with Nurbs but would like to test a bit in the beta if it’s better.

it’s happened with every version of the last 4 or 5, right now using latest 2023 (2023.1 Pro) where it seems to get stuck the most, even after reboots. With KS11 (11.3.3 Pro) usually a geometry tool, or by selecting an item further up in the hierarchy or selecting a new primitive added (like a cube or sphere) would fix it, but with 2023 nothing seems to fix it.

one quirk that may contribute: I’m using an nVidia GTX 3060Ti GPU, with GPU mode on, turning GPU mode off doesn’t affect it at all in 2023, but in KS11, clicking off GPU mode, and back on fixed it once, though that may have been a fluke/coincidence.

Any solution here? I’ve experienced this continually for years with no rhyme or reason. The NURBS on/off toggle works usually, but only if it is present. Some parts do not have NURBS as an option (I get most of my 3D models from clients, so I almost never am creating models and maybe the issue is related to the type of file I receive – almost always STEP files), so it seems that if the choose to be grayed out, they stay grayed out no matter the action.

It works as always. To force the radius option greyed out you can:
